Vision

Let’s
blossom
together!

Have you ever had the impulse of wanting to stroll right into a beautiful painting? That’s exactly the feeling we strive to achieve, except that we aim to make it real!

We envision a vibrant, colourful garden, where flowers, herbs and vegetables create a feast for the eyes, while behind it lies a thriving eco-system with healthy, productive soils and rich harvests.

Which?Garden follows permaculture design principles and is committed to the idea of a planned transition into a circular economy, as supported by a growing civic movement of communities around the world (https://transitionnetwork.org).

Permaculture?!

Permaculture is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems that have the diversity, stability and resilience of natural ecosystems.

The ethical foundations of permaculture are:

  • Care for the Earth
  • Care for people
  • Just attribution of resources and surplus

Agroforestry & Syntropic Agriculture?!

Syntropic agriculture (also described as successional agroforestry) is first and foremost a change in perspective . It is constituted by a theoretical and practical setting in which the natural processes are translated into farming interventions in their form, function, and dynamics.

Read this interview with our former Head Gardener Mish to learn more about this interesting approach, which was developed in Brazil by Swiss emigrant Ernst Gotsch, or check out https://agendagotsch.com/en/what-is-syntropic-farming/

Transition?!

Transition is about communities stepping up to address the big challenges we all face by starting local. They seek to nurture a caring culture, one focused on supporting each other, both as groups or as wider communities. In practice, transition means pioneering sustainable and practical answers to today’s biggest challenges, sparking entrepreneurship, and weaving webs of connection and support. It’s an approach that, since 2005, has spread to over 50 countries, in thousands of groups: in towns, villages, cities, Universities, schools.

We want to be part of transition! We’re convinced that fundamental change is possible if people have a tangible goal and move on from thinking to doing together. The Power of Just Doing Stuff, a book by Transition founder Rob Hopkins, shows just how this works. The more people get started on working out sustainable solutions, the quicker change will be visible and noticeable.

This Is How We Contribute

  • Which?Garden shows hands-on solutions from permaculture which can easily be implemented on your own balcony or in your garden. We use the term „IKEA principle“ i.e. we show fully “furnished” garden crates or flower-beds, which can be copied 1:1 at home.
  • Which?Garden provides an enchanting haven, sparkles with feel-good charm, experiments with relish, and invites visitors to become part of new solutions.
  • Which?Garden steps forward to demonstrate that mother Earth provides us with glorious abundance if we put into place intelligent systems for food production which align the needs of humans, animals and nature. Building proof that this is possible without or with very few machines is part of Which?Garden‘s experiment.
